Why Do We Overthink Everything?
Why Do We All Think Differently?
Every day, countless thoughts pass through our minds.
Some are happy thoughts. Some are worries. Some are about our future, our family, our friends, or ourselves. At first glance, these thoughts may seem completely different, but I have come to believe that they all begin in a similar way.
In many ways, our thoughts are built from information.
Throughout life, we continuously receive information from our surroundings. We remember conversations, experiences, successes, failures, relationships, and emotions. All of this information is stored in our memory. However, it does not remain unchanged. It passes through our unique personality, values, and habits of thinking before it becomes a thought.
This is why two people can experience exactly the same situation yet think about it very differently.
For example, I tend to be a careful person. I do not like causing inconvenience or hurting other people. Because of this, whenever a friend needs help, I naturally spend time thinking carefully about the best way to help without creating new problems or making the situation worse.
Someone with a different personality might make a decision much more quickly. Neither approach is necessarily right or wrong. They simply reflect different ways of processing the same information.
The more I observed this, the more I realized that our thoughts are not random. They are shaped by the information we receive and filtered through the kind of person we have become.
This also explains why each person develops a unique thinking style. Some people naturally focus on risks. Others focus on opportunities. Some think first about themselves, while others immediately think about the people around them.
Understanding your own thinking style can be surprisingly valuable.
Instead of judging every thought that appears in your mind, try asking yourself:
“What part of my personality is influencing this thought?”
The answer may help you understand not only your thoughts, but also yourself.
In my experience, self-understanding is one of the first steps toward a calmer mind and wiser decisions.
