Doctor’s Prescription
Whenever a part of our body hurts, we go to the hospital. We receive an examination, listen to the doctor’s explanation, describe our symptoms, and finally receive a prescription.
However, no two prescriptions are exactly the same.
Why? Because every person’s condition is different. The area that hurts is different, the severity of the illness is different, and the medicine that is needed is also different. For example, the medication prescribed to someone with diabetes is different from the medication given to someone who does not have diabetes. Even among people with diabetes, the prescription changes depending on how severe the condition is.
The same principle applies to many other illnesses. A doctor’s prescription is always based on the person’s physical condition and overall health.
In the same way, the person who knows my body best is me.
I should think carefully about what I need to do, what habits I should build, and what choices I should make to maintain a healthy body. To do that, I need to prepare in advance by learning about health, exercising regularly, and developing healthy daily habits.
People who live this way are often healthier overall.
Not only do they take care of their bodies, but they also take care of their surroundings. If there are people with harmful attitudes or influences around them, they create healthy boundaries. If there are unnecessary or unhealthy things in their environment, they organize or remove them.
The same is true for our minds.
Every day, many different thoughts arise within us. Some thoughts help us become healthier and stronger, while others weaken our minds and disturb our peace. Just as we choose healthy food for our bodies, we should also learn to choose healthy thoughts for our minds.
Perhaps this is the most important prescription of all.
A prescription written by a doctor helps heal the body. But the prescription that we write for ourselves—through our choices, our habits, our relationships, and our thoughts—may determine the quality of our entire life.
The very first person who should watch over me, care for me, heal me, and love me is myself.
Before expecting those things from anyone else, I must first give them to myself.
I believe that caring for myself is the beginning of living a healthy and meaningful life.
What do you think?
